FREE * Emissions Test plus $5 Timmies card – No appointment necessary
Under Drive Clean, your vehicle must have an emissions test to renew your registration and licence plates. If your vehicle needs a test, you will be notified by the Ministry of Transportation in the registration renewal documents. Light duty cars and trucks manufactured after 1988 that are 7 years and older need to be tested every two years. Vehicles with even number years are tested in odd years and vice versa. In 2013 vehicles manufactured in 2006, 2004, 2002, etc. are being tested. Vehicles manufactured after 2007 won’t require testing this year unless they are sold or transferred.
As of April 1, 2017, a Drive Clean test is no longer needed for ownership transfers resulting from buying a used vehicle, and initial registration of out-of- province and out-of- country vehicles.
Vehicles seven years and older undergoing a family transfer where the retail tax exemption is used, require a Drive Clean test if that vehicle is due for a test at the time of the transfer.
